There’s a subtle difference between creating art and writing to market. Really, it comes down to the order of operations.
When creating art, the idea comes first. Then you have to find a market to sell it. This approach has better ideas but oftentimes little or no market, which means less potential for profit.
When writing to market, you first identify a need in the market, then come up with an idea to fill that need. This way has better chance for profit but the ideas aren’t usually as strong.
In this video, I discuss this difference, as well as many of the real facts we face as authors and marketers. I cover the natural marketing advantage women have over men, the illusion of social media, and a great deal many other factors we so often overlook.
