Using Word Count to your Advantage

If there’s one thing every author should know, it’s how to use word count to your advantage! Many people leave the topic of word count out of their conversations, masking their achievements under blanket terms such as novel, book, novelette, novella, or other such undefinable terms.

Word count is the ONLY method of measurement in which all forms of writing can be measured equally. Chapter count, page count, book thickness… these are fluid terms which vary a great deal due to formatting or other such alterations. Word count will never vary. If you have an 80k word novel, you have an 80k word novel. Nothing will change that.

In this video I help you understand novel size by discussing the benefits of using word count to your advantage. I answer such questions as ‘How long should I make my book?’, ‘How long should I make my chapters?’, ‘How many main characters should I have?’, or ‘How do I create a page turner?’. All of these questions are derivatives of word count.
